Professional and Linguistics Assessments Board Test – PLAB
The PLAB test is for doctors who have qualified overseas and wish to practice medicine in the UK under limited registration. The test assesses your ability, as a doctor, to work safely as a
senior house officer in a UK NHS hospital. It is composed of two parts, Part A and Part B. Completing PLAB tests allows you to apply for training in the UK and continue your career path there.
You must have a graduate certificate from an institution included in the World Directory of Medical Schools. Before qualifying to apply for the PLAB tests, you must have taken the IELTS academic modules and attained a score of at least 7.5 overall and a minimum of 7.0 for all of the four language skills.
Plab Part 1:
Part 1 is a 3 hour test with 200 MCQ questions.
The topics covered include the application of clinical knowledge, clinical assessment, management of cases and the presentation of diseases.
A pass score is set for each examination.
Part 1 is available in Egypt twice a year. The fees are £230.
Plab Part 2
Part 2 is a 14 station OSCE that tests a candidate’s performance in obtaining a history, clinical examination, practical skills and communication skills.
Each component is graded at each station, giving an overall grade for the station. A passing score is set for each exam.
Part 2 is only available in the UK. The fees are £840.
