Membership to the Royal College of Physicians UK – MRCP UK
The MRCP(UK) Diploma and Specialty Certificate Examinations are designed to test the skills, knowledge and behavior of doctors in training. The MRCP(UK) Diploma is the knowledge-based assessment for core medical training in the UK. Successful completion of the entire three-part examination is required before you can start specialist internal medicine training in the UK. MRCP is also highly regarded in many other places in the world including the Middle East, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
You must complete a minimum of 12 months of postgraduate training in medical employment before being eligible to apply for MRCP Examinations. In Egypt, an internship year qualifies you to sit for the exams. You must pass each step before proceeding to the next one.
MRCP Part 1 Exam
Part 1 is a one-day exam with two papers, each 3 hours long and includes 100 MCQ questions, designed to assess a candidate's knowledge and understanding of the clinical sciences relevant to medical practice and of common or important disorders to a level appropriate for entry to specialist training.
An overall scaled score of 528 or greater out of 999 will be considered a pass. The exam is available in Cairo 3 times a year; in January, May and September. The application deadline is usually 2 months before the exam date. The fees are £594.
MRCP Part 2 Exam
Part 2 is a two-day exam with 3 papers, each paper lasts 3 hours. It includes 270 MCQ questions that will test the ability to apply clinical understanding, make clinical judgements and take responsibility for diagnosing, investigating, selecting plans for immediate and long-term treatment and assessing prognosis.
An overall scaled score of 454 or greater out of 999 will be considered a pass. The exam is available in Cairo 3 times a year; in April, June and December. The application deadline is usually 2 months before the exam date. The fees are £594.
MRCP Paces: Practical Assessment of Clinical Examination Skills
PACES is a half day clinical assessment exam that includes eight patient encounters divided into five stations. Each station is allocated 20 minutes and a 5-minute interval between stations. There are two independent examiners at each station assessing seven core skills which are physical examination, identifying physical signs, clinical communication, differential diagnosis, clinical judgement, managing patients’ concerns and maintaining patient welfare. Different numbers and combinations of the skills are assessed at each encounter.
To pass, candidates must attain a minimum standard in each of the seven skills and also a minimum total score of 130 across the whole assessment. The exam is available in Cairo 3 times a year; in February, June and October. The application deadline is usually 3 months before the exam date. The fees are £1202.
